For the first time, menopause screening will be included in NHS health checks across England starting next year. Women aged 40 to 74 will be asked about menopause symptoms during routine check-ups, which already assess risks for conditions like heart disease, diabetes, and dementia. The move aims to help identify women who could benefit from treatments such as hormone replacement therapy, counselling, or medication for symptoms like hot flushes. Officials hope this step will normalize conversations around menopause and ensure better support, as many women continue to struggle in silence. However, experts warn that low participation in health checks could limit the program’s impact. With most women experiencing menopause between 45 and 55, advocates stress the importance of reducing stigma and improving awareness nationwide.
