Why Fibre Is the New Nutrition Trend on Social Media

Why Fibre Is the New Nutrition Trend on Social Media

After last year’s obsession with protein, fibre has emerged as the latest nutrition focus online. Social media platforms, especially TikTok, are filled with posts promoting high-fibre foods such as beans, seeds, wholegrains and fruit, under trends like #fibremaxxing. Nutrition experts largely welcome the shift, noting that most adults fall well short of the recommended 30g of fibre per day.

Fibre plays a vital role in digestion, heart health and blood sugar control, and research links higher intake to lower risks of chronic diseases, including diabetes and certain cancers. It also supports gut bacteria, which may benefit mental wellbeing through the gut–brain connection.

Many people who have increased their fibre intake report better energy levels, improved mood and overall health. Simple dietary swaps—choosing wholegrains over refined carbohydrates and adding fruit, vegetables, nuts and legumes—can help boost intake. Experts advise increasing fibre gradually and drinking plenty of water to avoid digestive discomfort.
