AI Set to Change Hotel Discovery as Human Service Remains Central

Artificial intelligence is expected to alter the way travellers search for and select hotels, while the hospitality industry continues to place value on personal service and human interaction.

The issue was discussed by hospitality executives during a panel at Arabian Travel Market. Industry leaders examined the growing influence of AI-led search and automation on hotel operations, marketing and the guest journey.

AI tools are increasingly being used to help travellers discover accommodation, compare options and make decisions before a booking is made. This is changing the traditional path through which guests encounter hotel brands, creating new considerations for hotel operators and commercial teams.

The technology is also finding applications within hotel operations. Automated systems can assist with repetitive tasks and provide staff with information that may help them respond to guest needs more efficiently. However, panel members stressed that greater automation does not remove the need for people in hospitality.

Personal interaction remains an important part of the hotel experience, particularly when guests require assistance, have specific requests or encounter problems during their stay. For operators, the challenge is therefore to use technology without allowing automation to weaken the service element that distinguishes hospitality from other sectors.

The discussion also pointed to the need for hotels to adapt their digital strategies as AI becomes more influential in travel search. Properties may need to consider how their information, services and brand identity are represented across emerging AI-powered discovery channels.

As adoption grows, hospitality companies are likely to balance two priorities: using artificial intelligence to improve efficiency and adapting to changing traveller behaviour, while retaining the human contact that remains central to the guest experience.
