AquaStar Recalls Kroger Shrimp Over Potential Cesium-137 Contamination

AquaStar (USA) Corp., Seattle, WA, has recalled 18,000 bags of Kroger Mercado Cooked Medium Peeled Tail-Off Shrimp (2 lbs, frozen) due to potential contamination with the radioactive isotope cesium-137 (Cs-137). The recall covers products packaged under lot codes 10662 5139 (Best Before 11/19/2027) and 10662 5140 (Best Before 11/20/2027), sold between July 24 and August 11, 2025 across multiple Kroger-owned retailers in AL, AR, GA, IL, IN, KS, KY, MI, MO, MS, NE, OH, SC, TN, VA, WI, and WV.

Cs-137, a man-made byproduct of nuclear activity, can increase long-term cancer risk if consumed repeatedly in contaminated food or water. While no illnesses have been reported, the FDA is investigating shrimp imports from Indonesian processor PT. Bahari Makmur Sejati (BMS Foods) after U.S. Customs flagged shipments for possible Cs-137 exposure.
