Canada Expands Pistachio Recall Amid Salmonella Outbreak

Canadian health officials have expanded the recall of pistachio products linked to a Salmonella outbreak that has sickened at least 62 people across the country. Eight additional products, including several brands of ice cream and baklava, have been recalled, bringing the total to more than 35. The affected items were distributed in Ontario, though outbreak cases span multiple provinces: 45 in Quebec, 11 in Ontario, five in British Columbia, and one in Manitoba. Ten patients have been hospitalized, with ages ranging from 2 to 89. No deaths have been reported.

The outbreak has been traced to Habibi brand pistachios, where Salmonella was detected. Because of reporting delays, additional cases may still emerge. Health officials note that actual illnesses are likely far higher, as many mild cases go unreported.

Consumers who ate recalled pistachio products and develop diarrhea, fever, or abdominal cramps are urged to seek medical care and mention possible Salmonella exposure.
