FDA Expands Listeria-Linked Pasta Meal Recall; Updates on Multiple Ongoing Outbreaks

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has expanded its Listeria outbreak advisory to include more brands of ready-to-eat pasta meals, now linked to 20 infections across 15 states, with 19 hospitalizations and five deaths. The affected products include recalled pasta salads and frozen meals from Giant Eagle, Kroger, Trader Joe’s, Albertsons, Scott & Jon’s, and Marketside, among others. The recalls trace back to Nate’s Fine Foods Inc., whose pre-cooked pasta tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes. The supplier does not sell directly to consumers and is cooperating with the FDA.

Meanwhile, investigations continue into four other outbreaks:

  • Salmonella Lomalinda – 39 cases; source under investigation.
  • Listeria monocytogenes (two separate outbreaks) – 8 and 26 cases, respectively; traceback ongoing.
  • Salmonella Enteritidis – 45 cases; source not yet identified.

The FDA continues traceback, sampling, and inspections but has yet to disclose implicated foods or locations.
