The Food and Drug Administration has advised restaurants, retailers, and consumers to avoid certain raw oysters and Manila clams due to possible norovirus contamination. The affected shellfish were harvested in Drayton Harbor and distributed across multiple U.S. states.
The oysters were sourced from Drayton Harbor Oyster Company, while the Manila clams were harvested by Lummi Indian Business Council between February 13 and March 3, 2026. Authorities linked these products to a norovirus-related illness outbreak, prompting a recall.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, norovirus can cause symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, fever, and body aches, usually appearing within 12 to 48 hours of exposure. While most people recover within a few days, severe dehydration may require medical attention.
Officials warn that contaminated shellfish may not show visible signs of spoilage and can spread infection easily, highlighting the importance of avoiding affected products.
