Goot Essa recalls cheese following testing shows Listeria contamination

Goot Essa LLC of Howard, PA, is recalling one lot of Goot Essa brand Der Mutterschaf Cheese due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The recall affects 4-ounce (UPC 810154560189) and 8-ounce (UPC 810154560196) packages marked with lot number 33, distributed to retailers and restaurants in New Jersey, Virginia, Connecticut, and Montana.

No illnesses have been reported. The contamination was discovered during routine company testing. Sampling of other batches showed no Listeria presence. Customers who purchased Der Mutterschaf Cheese from lot 33 are advised to return it to the point of purchase for a full refund. Questions can be directed to Goot Essa at 800-490-4387.

Listeria-contaminated food may appear normal but can cause serious infections. Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, fever, muscle aches, headache, and neck stiffness. High-risk groups—pregnant women, elderly, young children, and immunocompromised individuals—may face severe illness or death. Symptoms can take up to 70 days to appear, so medical attention is advised if exposure is suspected.
