Initiative Foods Recalls Tippy Toes Fruit Puree Due to Elevated Patulin Levels

IF Copack LLC, operating as Initiative Foods, is recalling one lot of its “Tippy Toes” Apple Pear Banana Fruit Puree after testing identified elevated levels of patulin, a naturally occurring toxin produced by molds that can grow on fruits such as apples. Prolonged exposure to patulin through consumption may pose health risks, including possible immune system suppression, nerve effects, headache, fever, and nausea.

No illnesses or injuries have been reported in connection with the affected baby food to date.

The product was distributed nationwide at retail grocery stores across the United States, excluding Alaska, and may also have reached Guam and Puerto Rico. The recalled item bears UPC 036800265783, Lot #07174, package code INIA0120, and a “Best By” date of 07/17/2026 printed on the bottom of the plastic container.

The issue was identified through the Food and Drug Administration’s Total Diet Study, and the recall is being conducted at the agency’s recommendation.
