M.C.I Foods Recalls 91,585 Pounds of Breakfast Burritos Over Listeria Risk

M.C.I. Foods Inc. of Santa Fe Springs, California, has recalled 91,585 pounds of frozen breakfast burrito and wrap products due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, according to the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). The affected Los Cabos, El Más Fino, and Midamar brand products—some distributed to schools—were produced between September 17 and October 14 and bear establishment numbers “EST. 1162A” or “P-5890A” inside the USDA inspection mark. The issue emerged after routine testing detected Listeria in a scrambled egg ingredient from an external supplier. While no illnesses have been reported, Listeria infections can take up to 70 days to appear. FSIS warns that the products may still be stored in institutional freezers or refrigerators and urges foodservice providers to discard them immediately. The recall highlights ongoing food safety vigilance within national school meal programs.
