Organic Chia Seeds Recalled in Canada Over Salmonella Risk

Left Coast Organics has recalled certain organic chia seeds sold in Canada after testing indicated possible contamination with Salmonella, according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). The products were distributed in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, and Saskatchewan. The CFIA stated the recall was prompted by a similar action taken in another country, though no further details were provided.

The affected chia seeds are sold in 900-gram plastic pouches with the UPC code 6 25691 21034 9 and marked with Best Before dates of 26 NO 13 or 26 NO 14. Consumers are advised not to use, sell, or distribute the recalled product.

Infection can cause diarrhea, stomach cramps, and fever within 12 to 72 hours of consumption. While most healthy adults recover within a week, infants, seniors, pregnant individuals, and those with weakened immune systems face a higher risk of severe illness.

Anyone experiencing symptoms after consuming the recalled chia seeds should seek medical care and inform their healthcare provider of possible Salmonella exposure.
