Salmonella Outbreak Linked to Imported Moringa Leaf Powder Prompts Recall

The FDA and CDC are investigating a Salmonella Richmond outbreak traced to imported moringa leaf powder, with 11 confirmed cases across seven states as of October 31. Three patients have been hospitalized, with illnesses occurring between May 12 and September 4 in individuals aged 13 to 65.

Interviews revealed that nine of ten patients consumed powdered dietary supplements—six of whom used Member’s Mark Super Greens Powder, sold online and at Sam’s Club stores nationwide. Sam’s Club has halted sales and issued a recall, advising customers to discard or return affected products.

Traceback investigations identified the moringa leaf powder supplier as Vallon Farm Direct PVT LTD of Jodhpur, India. Open samples collected from patients’ homes in Virginia and Michigan tested positive for Salmonella and matched the outbreak strain.

Health officials warn that actual infections are likely underreported and urge anyone with symptoms—such as fever, cramps, or diarrhea—to seek medical care promptly.
