India Must Prioritize Liver Health with Early Diagnosis and Innovation: Expert

Liver disease affects over 20% of Indian adults and accounts for 18.3% of global fatalities. Chander Shekhar Sibal, VP at Fujifilm India, urges that liver health be prioritized in India's public health strategy. He stresses the need for early diagnosis, especially for asymptomatic diseases like hepatitis and NAFLD, to avoid late-stage complications. Sibal calls for integration of advanced technologies—including elastography, AI-powered imaging, and biomarker-based IVD screening—into national health programs. These innovations can enhance detection, particularly in underserved areas. He also highlights the potential of portable diagnostic tools and POCT devices to improve access and reduce delays. Collaborative efforts and increased investment in research, infrastructure, and training are essential to reverse the rising liver disease burden and improve survival outcomes across the country.
