FDA Expands Recall of Korean Oysters Over Norovirus Contamination

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a second update expanding its warning against certain frozen oysters imported from the Republic of Korea (ROK) because of norovirus contamination.

Initially, the warning covered oysters harvested Dec. 30, 2024–Feb. 6, 2025 from Designated Area No. 1 and processed by JBR, KR-15-SP. The alert has now been broadened to include all frozen half-shell and individually quick frozen (IQF) oysters harvested between Dec. 30, 2024, and Aug. 7, 2025, by the same processor.

The implicated oysters, distributed by Wang Globalnet of Vernon, CA, may still be in retail, restaurant, or household freezers due to their long shelf life.

Norovirus infections can cause severe vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, fever, and dehydration within 12–48 hours of exposure. While most people recover in a few days, the illness is highly contagious. Consumers are advised to discard or return affected products and practice strict hygiene to prevent spread.
