Listeria Contamination Prompts Recall of Mount Becher Buffalo Cheese in Canada

Natural Pastures Cheese Company has recalled its Mount Becher Buffalo Medium Cheese after testing by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) detected Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The affected product, distributed in British Columbia and Ontario, is sold in variable weights and marked with Batch# 854 179.

The CFIA is conducting an ongoing food safety investigation, and more recalls may follow. Consumers are advised not to eat the recalled cheese. Those who have consumed it should monitor for symptoms of Listeria infection, which can appear up to 70 days after exposure.

Listeria may cause serious illness, especially in pregnant women, seniors, young children, and immunocompromised individuals. Symptoms include fever, nausea, vomiting, muscle aches, headaches, and neck stiffness. In pregnant women, it can lead to miscarriage, stillbirth, or neonatal infection.

Anyone experiencing symptoms after consuming the recalled product should seek medical attention and inform their doctor of the possible exposure.
