Starbucks–Tata Unveil Long-Term Farmer Support Partnership to Boost India’s Coffee Sector

Starbucks Coffee Company and Tata Starbucks have introduced a Farmer Support Partnership (FSP) aimed at strengthening India’s coffee ecosystem and empowering growers. The initiative plans to assist 10,000 farmers by 2030, with operations centred in Karnataka and extending to Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Kerala.

The collaboration combines Tata’s regional insights with Starbucks’ global agronomy expertise. Farmers will gain access to open-source knowledge, modern cultivation methods, and sustainable practices used across Starbucks’ global network. A major feature of the programme is the development of technical “model farms,” which will test new coffee varieties, climate-resilient methods, and sustainability innovations suited to Indian conditions.

The partnership will also connect Indian farmers to Starbucks’ international Farmer Support Centers and future digital training platforms, offering guidance on agronomy, coffee quality, and regenerative agriculture. Over the next five years, the FSP aims to improve productivity, profitability, and climate resilience, supported by Tata Starbucks’ donation of one million high-yield Arabica seedlings.
