ECRI has listed insufficient AI governance and cybersecurity threats among the top 10 patient safety concerns for 2025. While AI can improve healthcare, poor oversight may lead to misdiagnoses and inappropriate treatments. ECRI warns that AI errors can be hard to track and urges healthcare providers to form multidisciplinary review committees and conduct regular safety assessments.
Cybersecurity risks, ranked fourth, can delay treatments, disrupt medical devices, and increase mortality rates. ECRI recommends regular risk evaluations and stronger security protocols to mitigate potential breaches.
Other key concerns include diagnostic errors in cancer, vascular events, and infections, as well as medical misinformation, substandard drugs, and poor discharge communication. ECRI stresses the need for better AI oversight, cybersecurity measures, and diagnostic accuracy to improve patient safety in 2025 and beyond.
