The Ministry of Ayush has announced preparations for the 11th Ayurveda Day, with the main celebration scheduled to take place in Nagpur, Maharashtra, on September 23. The theme for this year's observance is “Ayurveda for a Healthier Tomorrow”.
Union Minister of State for Ayush and Health & Family Welfare, Prataprao Jadhav, outlined the campaign during a curtain-raiser event in New Delhi. The nationwide programme is intended to connect Ayurveda's traditional knowledge with changing healthcare requirements and contemporary approaches to health and wellness.
The 2026 campaign will focus on three broad areas. The first is integrative healthcare, which looks at bringing together the strengths of different healthcare systems to improve health outcomes. The second centres on evidence, research and innovation in Ayurveda, with greater emphasis on scientific investigation and the development of reliable evidence. The third focuses on community wellbeing and sustainable living.
Several initiatives have also been planned around the Ayurveda Day celebrations. These include the National Dhanwantari Ayurveda Awards 2026, safety dossiers relating to medicinal plants and Standard Treatment Guidelines for skin diseases. The programme is also expected to feature the Ayush Services Sector report and the Ayush Vision 2030 document.
The government has described the 2026 observance as a nationwide health communication campaign rather than a single-day programme. Activities are being organised to encourage wider public engagement and communication around Ayurveda.
The campaign comes as India seeks to strengthen the research, standardisation and global positioning of Ayurveda while connecting its traditional knowledge base with contemporary healthcare requirements. The 2026 theme reflects this emphasis on combining established Ayurvedic principles with research, innovation and broader healthcare needs.
