CHAI and NACHC Join Forces to Advance AI in Safety-Net Healthcare

The Coalition for Health AI (CHAI) and the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) have formed a partnership to help resource-constrained health providers adopt artificial intelligence. The initiative will establish standards, training, and research tailored to community health centers, while also surveying current AI and technology use to guide future efforts.

AI offers potential solutions for administrative strain, staffing shortages, and the rising demand for care, yet implementation remains difficult. Many safety-net providers face financial and technical hurdles; a recent Commonwealth Fund survey found over 60% of health centers struggle with telehealth costs alone.

To address these gaps, CHAI and NACHC plan to launch an “AI in Healthcare for the Safety Net” curriculum, create vendor certifications, and evaluate AI’s effect on outcomes. NACHC will also support CHAI’s work examining AI’s role in Medicaid enrollment amid new eligibility requirements that could drop millions from coverage.
