Cyberattacks Disrupt Patient Care in 70% of Healthcare Organizations, New Report Finds

A new report from Fortified Health Security reveals that over 90% of healthcare organizations faced cyberattacks in the past year, with 70% reporting disruptions to patient care. While healthcare entities have made strides in recovery planning, risk assessments, and identity management, major security gaps persist. These include poor supply chain oversight, outdated asset inventories, and under-maintained legacy systems. The report highlights how these vulnerabilities contributed to major breaches like the 2024 Change Healthcare incident. Despite improvements in threat analysis and leadership involvement, many hospitals continue to lack unified risk strategies and adequate employee training. The findings are based on Fortified’s work with healthcare clients across North America from 2023 to mid-2025. The report underscores how interconnected systems and neglected older technologies leave healthcare facilities exposed to increasingly sophisticated ransomware threats — and signals a critical need for more holistic and proactive cybersecurity efforts in the sector.
