FTCCI, ASCI and SCC stress on reducing cancer mortality with technology

The Federation of Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTCCI), in partnership with the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) and Swastava Cancer Care (SCC), hosted a seminar titled ‘Reducing Cancer Mortality – The Role of Technology’. Speakers highlighted that cancer, an age-related disease, is rising with longer life expectancies. India now records 15 lakh cancer cases annually, with a 65% mortality rate, one of the world’s highest. In Telangana, over 60% of cancers are lifestyle-related, with late-stage detection in 70% of cases, contributing to lower cure rates (30–35%) compared to the West (60–65%). Experts emphasized how AI and data science are transforming cancer research, especially in drug repurposing for rare conditions. The Telangana government’s AI4PublicGood initiative is actively promoting responsible AI in healthcare. A panel of experts discussed the urgent need for early detection, technology adoption, and public-private collaboration to reduce cancer mortality in the region.
