ICMR Launches Intramural MedTech Grant to Boost Indigenous Health Technology Innovation

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has launched a new Intramural Medical Technology (MedTech) Development Grant to encourage the creation of innovative technologies with public health and clinical relevance. The initiative is designed to support technology development projects within ICMR’s 27 institutes, which focus on national health priority areas and the advancement of cutting-edge medical research.

The scheme aims to strengthen indigenous innovation in line with the government’s Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiatives, promoting self-reliance while delivering global health impact. Proposals must focus on technologies that have reached at least Technology Readiness Level-3 or demonstrate a minimum 10% cost reduction over existing solutions. Collaboration with other ICMR institutes and, where necessary, industry partners is encouraged, along with a clear commercialization plan.

Applications must be submitted online through the ICMR i-ePMS portal by February 26, 2026. Selected projects, with funding up to ₹4 crore, will run for a maximum of two years and undergo multi-level scientific review before approval.
