The International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad (IIITH) and AIG Hospitals have launched the Centre for Digital Technologies in Healthcare (CDiTH) to integrate AI into medical practice.
AIG, performing 2,000+ surgeries monthly, uses AI to monitor patients and prevent emergencies, potentially saving three lives daily. AI enhances surgery, patient monitoring, diagnostics, and drug discovery. It improves polyp detection in colonoscopies, aids microbiome research, and supports predictive medicine. Smart beds and AI-driven sensors track patient health, while smart toilets analyze stool.
AI won’t replace doctors but will enhance their capabilities. However, data security and regulation remain challenges.
IIITH’s Kohli Centre on Intelligent Systems (KCIS) is a major AI research hub with 50 faculty and 500 researchers focused on machine learning, computer vision, robotics, and healthcare applications.
