Indian Pharma Advances NDDS for Precision, Painless Drug Delivery

Indian pharma is evolving beyond drug discovery to focus on innovative delivery systems like microneedle patches, implantable pumps, inhalable biologics, and nano-based carriers. According to Kashmik Formulation's MD Nilesh Patel, Novel Drug Delivery Systems (NDDS) are key to improving efficacy, patient adherence, and personalized care.

Microneedles offer painless, self-administered transdermal delivery, ideal for vaccines, insulin, and pain relief—especially in low-resource settings. Implantable systems provide sustained drug release, benefiting chronic therapies like cancer and neurological disorders. Inhalable biologics are emerging as alternatives to injectables, aided by new inhaler tech.

NDDS demands new excipients, smart devices, and tighter pharma-regulator collaboration. With growing emphasis on data-driven and patient-centric care, smart wearables and targeted nano-carriers may shape the future. Delivery science is now central to therapeutic success—not just an afterthought.
