Leadless pacemakers are revolutionizing treatment for bradycardia, a condition where the heart beats fewer than 60 times per minute. Unlike traditional pacemakers, which rely on wires (leads) and a subcutaneous device pocket, leadless pacemakers are self-contained, miniature devices implanted directly into the heart.
The implantation is minimally invasive: a catheter is inserted through a leg vein and guides the device into the heart’s right ventricle, where it anchors to the heart wall. Once in place, it automatically senses the heart’s electrical activity and delivers precise pulses to maintain a healthy rhythm.
By eliminating leads and a pocket, these devices reduce risks of infection, lead displacement, or breakage, and leave no visible scar or bulge. They are especially beneficial for patients with hard-to-access veins or prior infections. Leadless pacemakers represent a safer, more patient-friendly, and innovative approach to modern cardiac care.
